Starting with your new neighbourhood!
You’ll wake up each day in your beautiful light-filled modern home right in the heart of one of Canada’s loveliest cities. And its treasures are at your doorstep, ready to be explored.
Time for a stroll?
How about a cup of coffee or a truly delicious breakfast? Or both!
You have some of the best spots to choose from, just minutes from your door. And that’s if you’re walking. A bike will get you there faster and has the added benefit of burning up some calories. Victorians love their bicycles.
Jam Café offers all-day breakfast and lunch in a rustic city atmosphere. It’s hearty, indulgent comfort food, reimagined. Think red velvet pancakes, buttermilk bisquits and pan-fried oatmeal.
Or The Blue Fox, where an emphasis is on fresh, locally-sourced products - coffee is organic; chicken is free-run. Breakfast is served all day with good music, good value, good cheer, and a generous helping of west coast funk! 3 minutes away. 2 if you bike.
Just a coffee? Okay, how about with a croissant? It’s 6 short minutes to Macchiato where you can sit outside and watch the world pass by. Or for the coffee connoisseurs, there’s @HEISTCOFFEE. These folks pride themselves on sourcing the best coffee in the world, discovering its unique qualities and preparing it perfectly for their customers.
Hard choices, we know.
But the good news is that you now live in this neighbourhood so you can try a new spot every day.
Need some kitchen tools (or cooking lessons) for those days you cook in your new condo kitchen? Just 7 minutes away Cook Culture offers everything from designer kitchenware to intimate cooking classes with some of the region's top chefs; Cook Culture is the next generation of home store and your go-to spot for all things culinary.
Wellness and recreation opportunities are also close by with the YMCA (right across the street!) and Moksha Yoga (7 minutes) waiting to help you transform and relax.
After coffee, wander over to Munro’s Books - only a 9-minute walk - maybe more if you had a huge breakfast. Munro's Books occupies a landmark location in the heart of Victoria's Old Town and houses a thoughtful literary collection ranging from children's books to cookbooks and everything in between. It was established in 1963, by Jim Munro and his first wife, Alice - yes, that Alice Munro.
Arts and culture?
The Royal is only 2 minutes away! The 1,416 seat Royal Theatre opened in 1913 and remains Vancouver Island's premiere venue for touring attractions. Home to the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria, it has seen many legends on its stage, including Sarah Bernhardt, Carlos Montoya, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Luciano Pavarotti, National Ballet of Canada, Crosby, Stills, and Nash and Tony Bennett.
If you have the rest of the day to explore, it’s just a 10-minute walk over to the Royal BC Museum where you’ll find that the hours slip away quickly as you lose yourself in meticulously crafted dioramas, thoughtfully curated photography exhibits, and interactive presentations exploring BC’s natural and human history.
You may find that Beacon Hill Park - 11 minutes away - becomes your new favourite spot to stroll, jog, ride your bike or just meditate. The park is an expansive, green oasis on the edge of a busy city. Its terrain ranges from gorgeously landscaped to wonderfully wild and is crisscrossed by a series of meandering paths – well worn by horse-drawn carriages, pedestrians, and cyclists. Among its many attractions are numerous playgrounds, an impressive petting zoo, and a showy population of peacocks.
That’s probably enough for your first day of exploring the new neighbourhood. There are many more nearby shops and galleries to discover, as well as restaurants offering everything from fine dining to Asian street food.
Now that you’re a resident though, you’ll have all the time in the world to get to know your new ‘hood, and find your favourite hangouts.
You will find Victoria not only beautiful, but one of the friendliest places in Canada.
Welcome to your new home!
